Occasionally, the high school art program has a visitor come to the art room to talk to the young artists about a specific subject related to the visual arts.
In 2019, we are planning to talk with Doug Armknecht, a local drone videographer and video editor, about issues of copyright. Mr. Armknecht has had videos shown at several drone film festivals around the world and has received awards for his wonderful videography and editing skills. Copyright is an important and difficult topic which professional artists need to navigate.
On October 4, 2017, Al Leal, a Red Cloud resident who restores historical buildings for a living, visited the high school art room to talk to art and construction students about refurbishing and restoring old public and private buildings. Mr. Leal talked about his past projects in Texas and Nebraska, and we discussed the importance of restoring old buildings for future generations to use and appreciate. Mr. Leal brought in sample architectural details and he talked about the importance of research in figuring out what details would be appropriate for specific buildings made at specific times.
